Our Process

How We Make a Difference

  1. Plastic Collection: The process begins with gathering plastic waste from temples and religious centers, where plastic is often discarded in large quantities. This collection method reduces waste in the community while fostering collaborations with spiritual institutions.

  2. Sorting and Preparation: Volunteers meticulously sort the collected plastic to ensure that only the appropriate materials are selected for the mats. The plastic is then cleaned and prepared for crafting, enhancing durability and hygiene.

  3. Crafting and Crocheting: The plastic is cut into strips, creating a material similar to yarn. EcoWeave's team—driven by a core executive group of four and supported by 20 volunteers—uses crochet techniques to weave these strips into sturdy, flexible mats. Each mat is designed with a portable, roll-up structure, allowing for easy carrying.

  4. Insect Repellent Treatment: Each mat is sprayed with insect repellent, ensuring it is comfortable and protective for outdoor use. This addition is especially beneficial for those sleeping on the streets, as it helps create a safer, more restful environment.

  5. Distribution: The finished mats are distributed to homeless shelters, community centers, and directly to individuals in need. Through social media and partnerships, EcoWeave Home raises awareness and garners support, expanding the reach of their impact.
